How It Works:
If you're new to using menstrual cups, we understand that it can be pretty intimidating and difficult during the first try. But there's no need to fret because all it takes is a few deep breaths and a little getting used to.
Plus, we're here to make sure you don't get lost along the way. Here are some tips we have to get you started on your menstrual cup journey!
STEP 2: NOW, TO INSERT THE CUP!
- Make sure your hands are clean! Handwash with soap before insertion!
- Fold the cup.
There are many folding methods around, so it's up to you to find what type of fold suits you best. For starters, you may try the C-Fold or the Punch Down Fold. Here's how:
C-fold: Pinch the sides of the cup to make it flat and then fold in half to make the shape of a 'C'
Punch Down Fold: Hold the cup on one hand, and using the index finger of your other hand, pushe one side down inside the cup. Then pinch the sides together to keep the fold.
- Take a deep breath and make sure you are relaxed. There's no rule on how you should position yourself so you can do it lying down, sitting on the toilet, or even standing up. You'll soon find a way that works best for you in no time!
- Gently insert the folded cup and release. The stem should be facing downward. It will unfold by itself once it is entirely inside of you. You'll hear it pop or make a suction sound once it is inserted correctly. If you're not sure, you can try to reach in and feel the base of the cup. It should be smooth and round without any folds.
HELP! What if there are dents or folds? Simply grip the base (not the stem) and rotate to make it unfold.
To check, you can try to pull the stem a little and if the cup resists, that means the seal is in place, and you're all good to go!
NOTE: The cup should be placed in the lower vaginal canal and the stem should not be protruding out of your cervix.
Now you can go straight for up to 12 hours without having to change pads or tampons anymore!
STEP 3: EMPTYING THE CUP
If you have a heavy flow, you can empty out the cup for at least twice a day. The good news is, our cup is a valve cup that allows you to empty it out without having to remove it!
- Just squeeze the stem to open the valve and let it all flow out.
- Squeeze again to seal the cup close when it's all done.
STEP 4: REMOVING THE CUP
- Again, always make sure your hands are clean and washed properly using mild soap.
- Find a comfortable position that works for you so you're not anxious when removing your cup.
- To remove, pull on the stem until you can touch the base. Pinch the base gently to release its suction and gently pull it out. Don't just tug and pull the stem out since this can make you feel uncomfortable.
STEP 5: CLEANING YOUR CUP
- Pour out all the flow into the toilet or sink.
- Rinse the cup well with clean water. Do not use soap to rinse as this may alter the pH balance of your cup.
You may re-insert if needed, or store your cup in its cotton bag. If your period is over, sterilize the cup in boiling water for 3-5 minutes to disinfect, or use our Menstrual Cup Sterilizer before storage.
